I provide editorial services for research & advisory firms specializing in Information Management, Knowledge Management, Content Management, and related technologies.
My clients have extensive knowledge and expertise that they share with clients in white papers, reports, articles, newsletters, and website copy covering industry or sector research and trends. By relying on me to edit and polish their words, they free up their own time to move on to their next research project or client meeting while I focus on shaping a professional, top-quality document.
You could say that my services are an insurance policy for their image!
Editing Levels
Some reports need more TLC than others. The level of editing required depends on factors such as how much time the author was able to spend on the piece and who the audience is. For this reason, I tailor the editing to the specific need. If a client isn’t sure what is required, I’ll review the manuscript and make a recommendation.
Here’s a brief, general, non-exhaustive summary of editing levels. These aren’t mutually exclusive; I usually do two or all three.
- Content edit: This includes recommendations for improving structure, adding or removing content to improve flow, and ensuring that the arguments are logical. This can also be a “sanity check” to determine whether the paper is ready for prime time or needs more thought.
- Copy edit: This includes reviewing word choice, consistency of terminology, headlines, grammar, and punctuation, and making or suggesting revisions. I’ll also flag language or data that seems odd or potentially troublesome so that it can be doublechecked before publication.
- Proofread: This is a check for typos and mistakes in spelling, punctuation, and grammar as well as spacing and how the text and images look on the page. It’s most efficient to do this just before publication, when the ideas and language are solid.
